This 6-page educational brochure is part of a Quick Guide forest pest series. It took shape as the piñon Ips beetle began to take hold in southern Colorado after a period of drought. With the beetle on the rise, foresters needed to communicate to landowners how to care for piñon pines, when to cut trees and how best manage their properties to curb the spread of this forest pest. My role included editing and combining text from foresters and the state entomologist. I edited text, chose photos and information to highlight in sidebars and also created the graphic that overlays the beetle reproduction and lifecycle with which months of the year are best for pruning and removing piñon pines. After staff reviews, I managed production and delivery with a local printing company and created an online web version.
