My story

HI, GLAD YOU’RE HERE.

Like a salmon, I’ve returned to native turf after exploring the West. I work in the communications department at the Colorado State Forest Service and also as a freelance content creator.

I’ve spent miles on the road packing in experiences that have become my tools to help connect people to wild spaces — and tell those stories in ways that help us connect to each other.

And I’ve taken my camera along for the ride…

THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW…

1. The farther I get off the grid, the more I am at home.

2. “How hard could that be?” is my favorite saying.
Adventure and trouble are steadfast companions.

3. My OnX isn’t always on. Two tattered Gazetteers live in my rig.
Navigating by a paper map is both thrilling and terrifying for my
urban friends.

4. Curiosity and a love of exploration are driving. They are fueled
by single malt, coffee and numerous SD cards for the cameras.

5. I own enough camo …in old-school patterns. The animals don’t mind.

FROM THE NEWSROOM TO THE WILDERNESS

At two feet taller than the Statue of Liberty, Gus is a big hugger. I loved going to his neighborhood when I lived nearby.

I follow a pretty simple tenet: I’m passionate about putting in the effort to create the best work I can, I let curiosity lead me and I don’t use the oxford comma.

After 13 years in a daily newsroom I migrated to writing, editing and publication layout for state government and NGO outdoor agencies in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. I picked up wildlife and nature photography and video editing along the way to record the journey.

I find joy in using all of this to open the outdoors as an accessible space to others. Sometimes that comes through sharing my own experiences, especially those that don’t go as planned. Those are the moments when we learn something new — usually about ourselves.
